The markers

A marker is one physical thing we check. Each model has its own ordered checklist, and we teach the check while we run it.

maker's plate
The letterform, the stamping depth and the alloy, read at 4x.
shock mounts
How the mount is bonded to the shell, and whether it was replaced.
screw type
The head and thread the factory actually used in that year.
veneer
Ply count, the edge, and whether the grain runs on across the shell.
joinery
How the frame is cut and fitted where a copy takes the shortcut.
stitching
Thread tension, needle holes, and how the piping is turned.
patina
Wear where a piece of this age is worn, and nowhere else.

The checklists are written and reviewed by a photographer who designs and restores high-end furniture, and who has had these pieces apart on a workbench.

The catalogue

Ten models covered today, chosen where reproductions are rampant and the money gap is enormous. More as the asking tells us which.

Anything outside it is not covered yet. We would rather say nothing than guess.

The full report

Every marker in the checklist against your photos, including the ones we could not check and why. The dated price band with what a good reproduction sells for, the lines to send the seller, and a link that stays.

What we are not

not a certificate

We publish an evidenced opinion. No seal, no stamp, and every report names what we could not see.

not a guess

When your photos cannot carry a check, we name the exact shot we need and there is no charge.

not a scanner

Ten models checked deeply, not every object checked shallowly. We say when a model is not covered.
