Cassina, from 1965

LC2 Grand Confort armchair: real or reproduction

A genuine one typically changes hands at €2,900, and a good reproduction sells for €400 to €900. That gap is why you turn the piece over before you pay.

Below is the whole checklist we run on this model, 5 markers, written so you could run it by hand. Send your photos and we read the most decisive one free.

The markers that decide it

  1. 01

    engraved maker's mark

Cassina engraves the frame with the maker name, the designer names, a production number and often a date, inside the tube cage. The engraving is fine and slightly irregular in depth. Printed or absent marking on a chair sold as Cassina is a flag.

  2. 02

    tube cage

The chrome or enamelled cage is welded and ground so joints read continuous, with an exact cushion clearance. Copies show wider tube, visible weld beads, and cushions that either swim or jam in the cage.

  3. 03

    cushion proportion

Original cushions are firm, deep and squarely stitched, sitting proud of the frame by a consistent amount. Copies are softer, shallower, and sink between the tubes.

  4. 04

    stitching and welt

Straight seams, even thread tension and a welt at the cushion edge that holds its line. Wandering seams and rolled, unwelted edges are reproduction.

  5. 05

    feet

Correct plastic or rubber feet pressed into the tube ends. Missing feet, felt pads, or metal-on-floor tube ends need explaining.

This is an evidenced opinion read from photographs, never a certificate. A photograph cannot tell us what the piece weighs or how it sounds, and every report names what we could not check.
